Redemption edition by C David Milles Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A very hard glimpse into real issues affecting older kids today. Brings out sympathy for the average teenager and is emotionally moving. Great story line and intriguing characters!
Wonderful!
I fell in love with Ben's quiet, good natured teen style., He has the typcial introverted teenage style.
I also fell in love with Ethan's politeness, and brings his own magic to the story. I loved Cynthia because she reminded
me of my friends Kim and Christina from high school who wore black every single day. The story was wonderful. I loved the unpredictability of the major scene towards the end of the book.
I may eventually read this book again.
Loved it! Very well written !
Ben Harrison’s life hasn’t been easy. For starters, his full name is Benedict, and, as everyone knows, that’s the name of the most famous traitor in American history.
But Ben’s life takes a turn for the worse as he enters his sophomore year of high school. His dad died six months ago, and not only does Ben have to deal with his own grief, he must take care of his infant sister while his mother works to make ends meet, giving him no time for himself. And there’s the bullying he must endure at school.
However, he makes unlikely friends with a new boy named Ethan, who wears the same clothes every day, possesses healing powers, and knows things before they happen. Ethan tells Ben that at some point in the near future, there will be a shooting at the school and Ben will be killed. But, Ethan says, Ben can stop this tragedy before it happens.
Redemption takes a brutally honest and sympathetic look at the lives of ordinary teenagers in small town America. Bullies are bad enough, but there are also uncaring teachers, a by-the-books principal, family problems, and a depressed local economy to make Ben’s life a living hell. Then Ethan comes along and uses his supernatural powers to show Ben a different side of how thing might turn out.
Milles does a masterful job of bringing to life the lives and concerns of everyday teenagers, particularly in the troubled modern era, when school shootings are horrifically common. This is a fear most of us live with every day, and Milles shows us how such a situation can play out—the boiler keg of rage that builds within students who are bullied and feel there is no one to care for them.
The supernatural aspects of the story work well for the most part. Ethan’s abilities are subtly shown at first, but he is eventually forced into a situation where he must use them in view of several students and teachers. While we’re told that some people treat him differently after this, it seems that too many of the witnesses simply brush it off.
Also, while Milles never quite confirms Ethan’s true identify for the reader, it should be obvious to readers of the Judeo-Christian tradition about midway through the story. As a reader who grew up with this tradition, I could easily buy into it, but I couldn’t help wondering if it would hold the same significance for other readers.
Redemption is also about forgiveness and how one person can make a difference. As bad as Ben’s life has been, there are kids at Redemption High School who have it worse. In order to put his own grief into perspective, he must come to realize he has a larger role to play in the outcomes of others.
Could not put it down. Loved it
Great book. Stay in suspense who Ethan White is
